Black-Tie Wedding at Chateau de Lis, Oregon City: Kaitlyn & Arthur

There are weddings, and then there are the ones that feel like stepping into another era entirely. Kaitlyn and Arthur's black-tie celebration at Chateau de Lis in Oregon City was the latter — majestic, old-money elegant, and dripping with the kind of grandeur you'd expect from an actual castle. From the moment I arrived to set up my easel, it was clear this day was going to be something special.

How Kaitlyn & Arthur's Story Began

Every great love story has an unexpected beginning, and this one started with a single photo. Kaitlyn first noticed Arthur through a picture shared by mutual friends on social media — she was in Hawaii at the time, and something about him stuck with her. She eventually reached out, and the rest, as they say, is history. Fittingly, the two got engaged in Hawaii a year later, bringing their story full circle in the place where it all began.

How I Became a Part of Their Day

Kaitlyn actually found me on Instagram first, but our paths crossed again in person when she came across me painting live at an open house at Chateau de Lis. That chance encounter sealed the deal, and I couldn't have been more excited to be part of their celebration.

As the live wedding painter for their event, I had the honor of capturing their first kiss in real time, creating a large-scale painting on-site that immortalized that exact moment — the emotion, the joy, the black-tie elegance, all of it — as a one-of-a-kind keepsake for their home.

The Atmosphere: Regal, Romantic, and Full of Emotion

This was a summer wedding, but it felt worlds away from your typical breezy, outdoor summer affair. Everyone in attendance was dressed to the nines in black tie, and the entire day carried an air of old-world elegance — think castle turrets, candlelight, and guests who looked like they'd stepped out of a period film. But underneath all that grandeur was pure, unfiltered emotion. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. Guests were crying, laughing, and soaking in every regal, loving moment. And Kaitlyn? Absolutely stunning — every bit the bride you'd imagine gracing the halls of a chateau.

A Black-Tie Color Palette

Kaitlyn and Arthur chose a black-tie dress code for their wedding party and guests, and the result was pure sophistication. There's something about an all-black-tie affair that instantly elevates a day — it photographs beautifully, it feels intentional, and it perfectly matched the majestic, old-money vibe of Chateau de Lis. Paired with the venue's storybook architecture, the palette made for an evening that felt effortlessly elegant from ceremony to last dance.

A Surprise That Left Everyone in Tears

One of the most touching moments of the day came when the father of the bride surprised Kaitlyn with a song following their father-daughter dance. It was the kind of unscripted, heartfelt moment that no amount of planning can fully prepare you for — and it had guests reaching for tissues throughout the room.

Decor That Stole the Show

If there was one design element guests couldn't stop talking about, it was the flowers. Chateau de Lis was filled with an abundance of gorgeous white blooms, cascading through the space and adding to that soft, romantic, castle-like ambiance. Paired with the black-tie attire, the all-white florals struck the perfect balance between dramatic and refined.

The Detail That Made It Unforgettable

As if the setting, the surprise song, and the sea of white flowers weren't enough, live opera singers performed throughout the celebration. Their voices echoing through the chateau added a layer of theatrical, goosebump-inducing beauty to the day that guests are sure to remember for years to come.
